Joshua, I played in a 100-cello orchestra under Pablo Casals at the San Francisco Opera House when he was teaching a Master Class. I was wondering if I could try out to join the ensemble of cellos later this season. Thank you!

From Paula on September 29, 2011:

I believe we saw you at the Sedona Sinfonetta youth concert a couple years ago. My 12 year old was blown away. We now live in Seattle and she would love to see your upcoming concert at Town Hall. I am a single mom home schooling and still trying to find work and wanted to ask if there is any $ help available to attend the concert. The town hall already has all the volunteers they need. Would love to find a way to have my daughter attend.

Thanks P.

From Karen Sandene on August 19, 2011:

I’ve been listening to your arrangement of Street Spirit (Fade Out) w/ the Triple Door Quartet – it’s so lovely, and I’ve wondering how it would translate with the non-ostinato parts on the bassoon. Is this work available? I’m looking forward to you performing with the Omaha Symphony in November – I’m in the bassoon section here, and hope to get a chance to say hi. Thanks for your musicianship!

From JennySue LeSchander on August 7, 2011:

Hi Joshua,
After my initial enthusiasm, I found out that Oliver Nelson’s Dad played the sax….you may want to google him…has the same name. Also, sad to say..my friend Oliver..master jazz flutist extraordinaire..will be in New Orleans the weekend you’ll be in INDY. You’re still welcome !!! maybe we’ll just toast you and Mi. I’ll ck with “Diana Krall” if you are interested in playing. Just let us know your plans. whatever works with you is good with us.
Lainie

From Lainie Veenstra on January 4, 2011:

Wondered if you’d like to stay with us ?? Also, have some wonderful friends who play jazz…Oliver Nelson plays jazz flute..as did his famous Dad…also, Kelleen Strutz plays jazz keyboard and sings like Diana Krall. Soooo if you’re in the mood for a party…and perhaps some improv..just let us know your schedule , we can make it happen. Just will be great to see you again !! Found your blog VERY interesting…you can always talk to Bob about business stuff…happy to consult on a pro bono basis. Friends..what more can I say. From Alese Jones on December 20, 2010:

I saw one of your recent concerts and plan to attend the January 10th concert you are performing. Being only twelve, you are a huge inspiration to me, even though I play Flute. I have been reading music since I was eight so there was no problem learning my instrument (my band teacher says I sound like the 12th graders he teaches but that’s not the point). Trust me, if we could have had a choice to play String instruments for Band, Cello was my first choice. Unfortunately we didn’t :-/ All the same, I’m very happy with my instrument and my progress. You are an amazing performer and you have fun doing it – not a thing most people can say. I’d love to be a Music Performer major and play music as my career in the future – that would be a dream for me.

I wish you luck in all of your endeavors — all the best and happy holidays — Alese Jones

From Julio Contreras on November 19, 2010:

From Trish Cadwallader on April 11, 2010:

Joshua,
It was fun to see you and Yung-Jen Chen performing at Suzy and Rocky Saxbe’s home in Columbus. The evening was enchanting, I felt like I should have been wearing white gloves and a lovely silk gown sitting in a European court while listening to chamber music as once was so commonly done for evening entertainment! Hope you had time to catch some of the great food, too! We have tickets this evening for the ProMusica concert and having dinner with Jim Elliott and John Behal who also helped sponser Friday’s intimate concert… Come visit us again in Columbus. -Trish Cadwallader

Joshua, I give up! Somewhere in the back of my closet of dreams I thought there may have been a scrap of a chance that, before my dying day, I could learn to play the cello. After hearing your performance on Chicago Tonight, I have faced the reality that I never shall, and with YOU around, what’s the point?! Still, I am content knowing I can listen to your wonderful gift. Cheers to you and a Happy New Year! Signed, a new fan, Keith. Check out my band at http://www.myspace.com/swoonmethod.

From Lynne Cassone on October 31, 2009:

Hi, Joshua-
My son and I enjoyed your recent concert at UK, Lexington tremendously…wanted you to know. I especially appreciate your playfulness and obvious joy you take in playing and convey so well. If you’ve ever seen the two musical Marx brothers(Chico and Harpo) play, you may recognize the ethos (though neither were nearly as accomplished as you). I hope you become the model for classical music for the 21st century.
Bravo!

I will be coming to the east coast in November (11/4 – 11/6 in DC, 11/7-11/9 in Boston and 11/10-11/13 in NYC). Will you be playing for beer and hot dogs at any venue during these times? Seattle misses you.

From a retired violinist, I enjoyed very much your performance of the Elgar last night in Stamford. I predict a bright future ahead of you.

From Susan Rigano on April 19, 2009:

I just attended the 4.19 Sunday matinee of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra for the sole reason that I wanted to hear you play the Elgar Cello Concerto. I’d been reading about your prodigious talent and the Elgar cello concerto is one of my favs. You played brilliantly and I hung on every note. Thank you for the added bonusof an encore. As a frustrated ex-cellist who has heard the best of the best over the years I know I will be able to say that I heard you early in your career when you played in Stamford. You are phenomenal and I am blessed to have been at today’s concert. Your fan forever!
